Q: What area of fitness are you currently working in?
I’m a qualified chef as well as a personal trainer,
so I have combined my knowledge of food, nutrition, diet and
exercise to specialize in training people for fat loss and
also developing healthy recipes that taste great and are good
for you.
Q: How did you get into the fitness industry?
I’ve been exercising regularly from the age of 10 and
weight training from age 16 when I started bicycle racing.
I really fell in love with the fitness industry when I got
serious with my training to compete in Both IFBB and NABBA
fitness figure competitions. It amazed me how the body can
respond so well with the proper fuel and exercise. So I quite
my position as pastry sous Chef at Observation City hotel
in Perth and qualified as a trainer.
Q: Your reason for being in the fitness industry?
A passion and desire for helping to lower the obesity epidemic
and inspiring people to look after themselves.
Q: Any gripes about the fitness industry?
Not really...
Q: Did you study any areas of exercise or fitness?
My first lot of training was completed in Perth through IPFA
about 10 years ago, but most of my training has been through
the Fitness Institute Australia (FIA) here in Sydney. The
courses are very thorough and there is always help when you
need it.
I also have a passion for Muay Thai Kickboxing and submission
wrestling. I go for my black belt this year in kickboxing,
so I hope to learn more about sport specific training in these
areas and ways to improve my training in the future. I also
love training people for fat loss and body shaping as well
as helping people with their specific dietary needs and helping
to develop recipes for their lifestyle.
Q: How important do you think it is to update your learning in the fitness world?
Extremely important! We need to keep constantly learning...there
is always something to learn and the knowledge gained can
be passed on to your clients.
Q: What would you like to see happen in the industry over the next few years?
More sports specific training. Say for instance kickboxing....it
would be great to be put through a week or 2 intensive training
schedule - not just theory but putting the trainers through
their paces in the gym along with some outside distance training.
I also wouldn’t mind teaching some healthy cooking classes
for trainers and their clients...to me food and fitness go
hand in hand.
Q: Any predictions?
For myself it’s TV and more cook books. Also It’s
teaching mums and dads how to cook healthy meals for their
kids and try and teach families to enjoy exercise.
Q: What advice do you have for anyone wanting to learn more about fitness?
Their is always plenty to learn....find out what inspires
you most and go for it. FIA has plenty of great courses and
the instructors really know their stuff.
