Q: What area of fitness are you currently
working in?
I have now moved into the Corporate Health area offering
a wide variety of health and wellbeing services designed to
address the needs of organizations and help them be more productive.
These programs minimise any stress or immune related conditions.
Having said that, I have also made my PT into an exclusive
PT offering, specializing in Weight Management through a Lifestyle
coaching program, Pre & Post natal and post injury rehab
strength training.
In addition I now offer business development training for
other trainers. With all my years in corporate sales I have
put together a sales and marketing program designed for the
Personal Trainer who wants to have an efficient and successful
business.
Q: How did you get into the fitness
industry?
I have been in the gym or fitness industry for about 18 years
with no real break, so its been a big part of my life. However
I was in the corporate industry for about 13 years until I
decided I had enough, that was about 3 years ago.
Q: Your reason for being in the fitness
industry?
It comes easy to me, I enjoy it, I enjoy learning more about
it and providing a valuable service to people I come across.
I have always done that, only difference now is that it’s
a way of life and it brings me in an income.
Q: Any gripes about the fitness industry?
Yeah, some new trainers who think it is an easy way of making
a buck and not really providing a valuable service and bringing
the industry down.
Q: Did you study any areas of exercise
or fitness?
I have studied extensive areas now. I have completed a Cert
III & IV with FIA and am moving onto the Diploma of Fitness.
I also have a Level 3 ICE Mediball accreditation for corrective
exercise & functional training, am accredited in pregnancy
& exercise and have read and participated in various nutrition,
and anatomy articles workshops. I am always onto something.
Q: How important do you think it
is to update your learning in the fitness world?
Its no different to any other industry, with emerging trends
and new research coming all the time, it is very easy to be
left behind. There are many people already moving up and offering
very valuable services in the health and fitness industry.
We are only limited by our imagination and determination.
Q: What would you like to see happen
in the industry over the next few years?
That we get medically recognized for what we can provide
our community. That would mean a lot of us would have to pick
up our game though.
Q: Any predictions?
It’s only going to get bigger.
Q: What advice do you have for anyone
wanting to learn more about fitness?
I came across a quote the other day “Those who do not
find time for exercise will have to find time for illness.”
Its not just about fitness. Exercise, fitness or healthy living
can provide anyone with so much to their lives. There is so
many opportunities available out there for anyone who has
a decent work ethic and enjoys this industry.
