Q: What area of fitness are you currently
working in?
Corporate Health and Fitness (Toyota),, Cardiac Rehabilitation,
musculoskeletal rehabilitation, Personal Training, strength
& Conditioning for amateur kickboxing athletes.
Q: How did you get into the fitness
industry?
I was one of the first FIA Diploma Students; this course
kick started my career! Thanks FIA!
Q: Your reason for being in the fitness
industry?
I am certainly not one who likes monotonous jobs, the Fitness
industry has given me diversity, and this enables me to enjoy
what I do on a daily basis.
Q: Any gripes about the fitness industry?
Lack of professionalism! If we are going to be recognized
as health professionals, we must act like one! Trainers must
learn to dispel fact from fiction, when it comes to fitness
myths, there seems to be too many trainers who take the easy
way out and make up stories to save their ego.
Q: Did you study any areas of exercise
or fitness?
I completed the diploma of exercise science with the FIA,
and this course granted me entry into the 4 year exercise
science and rehabilitation degree at Wollongong University,
in which I found the manuals from several FIA diploma subjects
to be fantastic references during my degree.
Q: How important do you think it
is to update your learning in the fitness world?
Education is a Journey, not a destination, the saying goes!
With the ever changing state of our population’s health,
trainers must strive to stay up-to-date with their continuing
education, therefore expanding there career options.
Q: What would you like to see happen
in the industry over the next few years?
I think the new Diploma of Fitness is a step in the right
direction; all professional trainers should strive to achieve
the best level of education possible. Call the FIA!
Q: Any predictions?
I think that with the degeneration of our populations health,
the demand for knowledgeable trainers will only increase,
the need for highly professional trainers will increase and
those who make the effort to pursue there education to higher
levels will be in a better position to take advantage of these
opportunities.
Q: What advice do you have for anyone
wanting to learn more about fitness?
Think of your education as a continuing process and don’t
settle for second best, strive to stay up-to-date with current
exercise and health science literature. At least read the
Research Reviews that the FIA produce as often as you can.
