Q: What area of fitness are you currently
working in?
For the past 3 years I have been a franchised Personal Trainer
for Fitness First at Randwick. I also run outdoor group sessions.
Q: How did you get into the fitness
industry?
I was employed in various office jobs which did not suit
my energetic disposition, the whole time I was working out
in a gym and loving it so I looked into the fitness industry
and found the F.I.A website which immediately struck a chord
with me. I studied and became a Personal Trainer and have
never looked back!
Q: Your reason for being in the fitness
industry?
My involvement in the Fitness Industry has been a natural
progression, I grew up on a farm in a very active family and
have also worked out from a young age. Health and Fitness
is of absolute priority to me and being able to help others
in their quest is definitely the icing on the cake!
Q: Any gripes about the fitness industry?
That it focuses too much on appearance and not enough on
the importance of building health from the inside out. I try
to provide a holistic approach to health and fitness focusing
on attaining balance in nutrition, exercise and the body/mind.
Q: Did you study any areas of exercise
or fitness?
I have completed several certificates through F.I.A, the
most recent being Certificate 4 and Special Populations.
I frequently attend seminars and courses in functional training
and nutrition.
Q: How important do you think it
is to update your learning in the fitness world?
Very important. The Fitness Industry is forever growing and
there’s new research coming to light everyday and if
you are underqualified as a personal trainer it can potentially
endanger your client. There is many great courses and seminars
to attend which will ensure your knowledge is up to date.
Q: What would you like to see happen
in the industry over the next few years?
More of a focus on building total health and well-being,
not just looking good in the gym.
A lot more effective Government intervention into the obesity
problem.
Q: Any predictions?
Gyms everywhere bursting at the seams and more focus on health
and fitness education in schools.
Q: What advice do you have for anyone
wanting to learn more about fitness?
Get involved anyway you can, hire a personal trainer and
have a few sessions to get ideas and inspiration. Forget about
what others want you to do or if they doubt you, just have
a go and remember that you will be part of the fastest growing
industry in the world so the only way is up!
