Q: What area of fitness are you currently
working in?
Owner BodyGuard Health and Fitness Centre and Mentor Recruitment. Guiding
Fitness Professional through our industry (how to start,
training, job placement etc) and establishing personal training
studios for newcomers.
Q: How did you get into the fitness
industry?
23 years ago class with Lexie Williams and was hooked,
back then ACHPER course and 22 years now a registered instructor
and still love it!
Q: Your reason for being in the fitness
industry?
I see people dragging themselves through their lives, it
doesn’t have to be that way. I want give people
my energy, make them the best they can be.
Q: Any gripes about the fitness industry?
Judging the amount of emails I answer about our industry
there is a lot of confusion about re-registration and certification. We
need clarity and reassurance about the direction our industry
is taking.
Q: Did you study any areas of exercise
or fitness?
I never stop learning, research is very important to my
day to day interaction with clients. FIA Diploma Exercise
Science (now Diploma of Fitness) and Master Trainer in Pilates,
Massage Certificate, Ritmix (Radical Training) Australian
Boxing Institute. Aqua and Fitkids….. FIA has provided
a lot of new inspiration for me because you can get stale
if you don’t continue to challenge yourself.
Q: How important do you think it
is to update your learning in the fitness world?
It is of the utmost importance to stay informed and continue
your education in this industry if you are to be seen as
a professional. Our industry is still developing rapidly
and you need to see where you are in its growth and be the
best you can be in that area.
Q: What would you like to see happen
in the industry over the next few years?
Less confusion and more unity between the various bodies
that provide our education and registration services. We
have the chance to be unique as an industry and actually
work together for each other, link our skills and services
for all to benefit. What other industry has the sheer
energy, talent and mind power than ours? You just have to
find common ground for extraordinary people!
Q: Any predictions?
It is that typical ‘tip of the iceberg’ scenario,
the age of discovery, I predict that we will refine our industry
to the point of working on pare with the Allied Health Professionals
and lead people into a whole new realm of wellness.
Q: What advice do you have for anyone
wanting to learn more about fitness?
Get involved, talk to professionals already within the industry
and get to know what you are in for. Passion, hard
work, fun and long standing relationships are ahead of you. The
FIA is your starting point, they will give you the tools
for a brilliant career and lifestyle.
