Daniel Yazbek

Q: What area of fitness are you currently working in?
I currently train most of my clients from my exercise studio at home. I also during the week take boxing and circuit classes at Souths Juniors leagues club in Kingsford. Much of my focus is towards enhancing sporting performance in young martial artists, exercise and rehabilitation for clients with lower back pain and aqua based swimming exercises for people with arthritic conditions and fibromyalgia
Q: How did you get into the fitness industry?
I began competing in amateur boxing before the age of 17. During these 4 years I competed at state level and was always thinking of ways to improve my overall sporting performance through different training methods. From here my passion diverged into a broader area of health, such as clinical exercise, nutrition and weight management and strength and conditioning.
Q: Your reason for being in the fitness industry?
Since we are living in an obesity epidemic, I thought that personal training is a strong area in health today to help people achieve their fitness related goals. Also having a strong background in sport, lead me to be involved in the fitness industry.
Q: Any gripes about the fitness industry?
Yes. Most people consider personal training to be just a luxury and not a need, when in fact physical health and exercise are vital for someone’s longengevity and health. People need to start taking control of their individual health through a fitness professional. Once again, we are the fattest nation.
Q: Did you study any areas of exercise or fitness?
I completed the Certificate III in Fitness, Certificate IV in Fitness - Personal Trainer course and then a full Diploma of Fitness – Fitness Specialist, and was extremely happy with the work content of those courses. Thanks to the FIA I have now gained entry into a Bachelor of Exercise Science at ACU.
Q: How important do you think it is to update your learning in the fitness world?
Very important!! Clients want to be trained by trainers who have the best education and who can give the best possible information about nutrition, safe exercise design and exercise program design.
Q: What would you like to see happen in the industry over the next few years?
I would like to see other health care professionals, such as doctors and osteopaths not overlook the importance of physical activity and exercise and in referring them to health care professionals such as fitness specialists and personal trainers.
Q: Any predictions?
I think that people are now becoming more health conscious yet are lacking a lot of self-motivation. Personal trainers in the future may take on a more motivating role in their job rather than the physical activity part.
Q: What advice do you have for anyone wanting to learn more about fitness?
To go for it and strive to not only learn about fitness and exercise but to use it in ways in which you can benefit the client to achieve fitness and exercise related goals in the most safest way. One again the FIA provides a lot of knowledge and information, but also the latest research in medicine and science in exercise and sport to enhance more learning skills.
