Q: What area of fitness are you currently
working in?
Currently I am the owner/director of Vision Personal Training
Mosman. A Vision Franchise set up on Military Road Mosman.
We have a team of a dozen quality personal trainers, revolutionising
the health of clients on the north shore.
Q: How did you get into the fitness
industry?
Years ago I played lower grade rugby league for the Cronulla
Sharks, that got me interested in health and fitness. From
there the next stop was working the gym foor @ HealthLands
(Now Fitness First) Sylvania. This is where I met Andrew Simmons
(Director Of Vision Personal Training) and the Vision Team.
Their enthusiasm for life and professionalism inspired me
to be a personal trainer.
Q: Your reason for being in the fitness
industry?
I know it sounds a bit corny, but it really is to help people.
You come into contact with so many people in life especially
being a personal trainer, that are scared to go after their
dreams because they have no self confidence due to the way
they look and feel about themselves. I love seeing the way
a person's attitude of what they can accomplish in life increases
exponentially as their body shape and self concept evolves.
Q: Any gripes about the fitness industry?
It saddens me the quality of some of the trainers out there.
You have clients putting their hopes, dreams and health in
these people's hands, with little to no chance of achieving
quality results, and even the possibility of getting hurt.
Q: Did you study any areas of exercise
or fitness?
I went to Loftus tafe and studied Health, fitness and nutrition.
Years later I upgraded these qualification to Certificate
III and Certificate IV in Fitness with the sensational FIA.
I have also studied other varied certificates and attended
many seminars, workshops and conferences.
Q: How important do you think it
is to update your learning in the fitness world?
I believe it is absolutely essential. With the pace the world
is evolving today if you are not moving forward, you are traveling
backwards at light speed.
Q: What would you like to see happen
in the industry over the next few years?
More stringent testing and greater qualifications needed
to be a registered personal trainer.
Q: Any predictions?
That the average person having a regular personal trainer
will be as commonplace them having a hairdresser or GP.
Q: What advice do you have for anyone
wanting to learn more about fitness?
Read books, go to courses, listen to CD's, talk to experienced
trainers. Stay positive, keep learning. The day you think
you know it all is the day you stop learning and stop living.
