Q: What area of fitness are you currently
working in?
I am currently working in personal training, group fitness
training and I also have a corporate fitness company.
Q: How did you get into the fitness
industry?
I have been involved in fitness all my life. I started in
coaching team sports and from there went into personal training.
Q: Your reason for being in the fitness
industry?
I love being a personal trainer and a coach. I have always
been involved in sports and health. I am passionate about
health and fitness and enjoy watching people change their
lives for the better.
Q: Any gripes about the fitness industry?
The local councils wanting to charge a fee to use PUBLIC
SPACE. In the current environment where childhood obesity
and adult onset diabetes is at record levels, the council
wants to raise revenue from people wanting to look after their
health. I agree that there needs to be some regulating of
personal trainers, to make sure that every trainer is certified
and insured, but to charge such a high fee for use of this
space, is blatant revenue raising.
Q: Did you study any areas of exercise
or fitness?
I have studied speed, agility and quickness courses. I am
a qualified strength and conditioning coach with the Australian
Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA). I gained my
Certificate III and Certificate IV in Fitness from the FIA
and am currently completing my Diploma of Fitness –
Fitness Specialist with them.
Q: How important do you think it
is to update your learning in the fitness world?
Very important, as the more knowledge we can gain the better
service we can give our clients. As the industry evolves we
as trainers need to evolve and keep up.
Q: What would you like to see happen
in the industry over the next few years?
I would like to see the industry recognised as a professional
industry where we gain respect from other health care professionals.
Working with other health care professionals we can provide
a better service to our clients. If we could gain better recognition
by the government as a preventative measure against all the
lifestyle diseases, this would be a great step.
Q: Any predictions?
Greater Government intervention in health and fitness. The
government needs to realise that health will end up costing
them a lot more money in the future if they do not invest
now.
Q: What advice do you have for anyone
wanting to learn more about fitness?
If you are looking to learn more about fitness, make sure
that you are getting advice from a qualified personal training
professional. If you are interested in becoming a personal
trainer or just want to learn more about fitness then study
with an industry leader like the FIA.
