Terms and Conditions of an FIA Course/Subject Student Enrolment

Course entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for any Certificate III course, there are prerequisites for all other courses (see the student prospectus for more
details)

Flexible Delivery

The FIA provides flexible delivery with all of their educational courses. Students will be expected to complete their course requirements via an integrated system of workplace training and assessment, structured campus based education and/or as a distance/online education course or even a blend of the two. Students will be responsible for having access to the internet for some of their course work for all courses/subjects. All courses/subjects have specific academic timetables, students are responsible for meeting these requirements.

Cancellation and refund policy

Your signed enrolment form acts as confirmation that you accept and commit to paying the fees, as they are stated on your student enrolment form, including any forms submitted electronically.

Course/subject fees

All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to FIA. The student agrees to pay FIA the total course/subject fee listed on the enrolment form under totals investment. Payment in full is required 7 working days prior to the commencement of any course or subject. A deposit of 50% is required to secure a place with any courses/subjects. Student requests for refunds received in writing up to 7 days prior to the commencement of a course will receive a full refund minus a $200.00 cancellation fee for any/each course. Individual subjects enrolled in will incur a $50.00 cancellation fee per subject. Student requests for refunds received in writing submitted in less than 7 days prior to a course starting will receive a full refund minus a $400.00 cancellation fee for any/each course. Individual subjects enrolled in will incur a $100.00 cancellation fee per subject.

If there is no written notification prior to a course or subject being started, no refund will be issued. A course or subject has started once the campus based course you are enrolled in has begun (course advertised start date).

Distance/online learning courses/subjects are considered to have commenced from the date the course/subject materials have been sent to the student. Distance/online learning students have 7 days to apply in writing for a refund, after which there will be no refund for any courses or subjects received. If the materials are returned undamaged before 14 days a  full refund will be issued minus a $200.00 administration fee for each course/subject returned.

Transfer/Deferment

Students are able to transfer to the same course or subject for up to 6 months if the FIA has received a request in writing up to 7 days prior to the commencement of a course.  If the transfer, deferment request is received in less than 7 days prior to a course starting a $50.00 transfer fee will apply for each course or subject. Distance/online course transfers to campus based courses will incur an administration fee of $300.00.

Assessment Items

Any workplace assessment materials that need to be re-submitted will incur a $30.00 resubmission fee. All formal exams or tutorials online must be completed in the allocated period, if any formal exams are not completed in the allocated time, students will be deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC) and will be required to pay a re-enrol fee of $25.00 per formal exam.

Appeals Procedure

You may request a Not Yet Competent (NYC) assessment result to be reviewed within five working days from receipt of the result. Requests for a review of an assessment item must be made in writing to the FIA Education officer : admin@fia.com.au

General:

All Certificate III courses have a maximum of 6 months to complete and all Certificate IV and/or Diploma courses must be completed in 12 months. Students may gain extensions on their academic timetable for the courses/subjects they are enrolled in (maximum of 5 weeks) if they apply in writing prior to the end of the course/subject completion date. Students completing the Certificate III in Fitness course via distance/online can attend any of the weekend campus based practical workshops at no additional costs (see the 2008 calendar).

Students completing the Certificate III in Fitness course via distance/online are not enrolled in the Campus based First Aid course but may pay and enroll if they like or complete an equivalent first aid course elsewhere. A Senior First Aid course is a requirement for completing the Certificate III in Fitness and /or Sport.

The FIA reserves the right to change course dates and venues, or to cancel courses if necessary. In the event of a program being cancelled every effort will be made to avoid inconvenience by transferring attendees to other scheduled courses or awarding full refunds if requested.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy:

FIA recognises other Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) qualifications and Statements of Attainment awarded by other schools and colleges.  Students may apply to FIA for recognition of any relevant courses or subjects undertaken at FIA or at any other institution. Requests for RPL will not be considered once a course or subject has started. Students seeking an RPL are required to complete the RPL form (available from the FIA website or from the FIA Office).

Grievance And Student Complaint Policy

If a student has a minor grievance or complaint, they can e-mail the FIA Education officer : admin@fia.com.au. If the complaint is more serious, notification should be made directly to the FIA General Manager: janet@fia.com.au. All grievances will be treated with confidentiality and will not be detrimental to the student initiating the complaint.

Access And Equality

FIA is committed to integrating access and equality principles within all services that we provide to our students.

Anti Discrimination

If you feel you have been discriminated against, e-mail the FIA General Manager: janet@fia.com.au. If your complaint is still un-resolved, you may wish to seek external advice.

Language, Literacy And Numeracy Support

FIA can provide you with information about specialist assistance for students who require support with language, literacy or numeracy.  FIA will work in co-operation with the external specialist service to ensure successful outcomes.

Support Services

Disciplinary Procedures

Students who are found acting outside the Training Providers’ code of conduct maybe disciplined by a member of staff. Any student who commits a breach of discipline or is deemed as presenting a significant risk to themselves or others may not be able to continue their study with FIA.
