COURSE INFORMATION

The personal trainer course is offered as flexible delivery and can be completed as either a campus based intensive and/or distance/online learning (with options for campus based practical workshops and skills centre placement).

PREREQUISITE: A healthy interest.

Campus based – Fulltime
9.30 – 4pm Monday & Tuesday for 5 weeks + workplace training and tutorials online. Offered 6 times per year.

Or

Distance/Online Learning – Start anytime. You decide your academic timetable) + workplace training and tutorials online. Campus based practical workshops also freely available

Both methods include significant workplace training and tutorials online.

Certificate IV in Fitness (SRF 40206)

Diploma of Fitness (SRF 50206)

WHO SHOULD ENROL?

The Personal Trainer course can be completed by anyone who has (or is completing concurrently) their Certificate III in Fitness (or equivalent), is a registered instructor/trainer and is looking to expand their knowledge and skills in the fitness industry.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

All students will receive a comprehensive textbook for each of the four core subjects and associated support materials, plus several Professional Practice Manuals for completion in the workplace and access to the student online tools for the duration of the course.

At the completion of the course you will also receive a 12-month professional membership of FIA.

WHAT YOU WILL GAIN

Advanced standing into various further educational courses conducted by FIA. i.e Diploma of Fitness, a Certificate of Attainments in each of the subjects completed, CECs and eligibility for registration and insurance with Fitness Australia as a Personal Trainer.

WHAT ARE THE SUBJECTS IN THE CERTIFICATE IV IN FITNESS?

> Advanced Aerobic Conditioning

This subject extends the knowledge of the student in advanced concepts of aerobic conditioning, the physiological parameters that underpin these processes and the factors affecting all forms of aerobic prescription.

> Advanced Resistance Training

This subject extends the student’s knowledge of the principles, concepts and applications of resistance training, enabling them to design resistance-training programs for general and specific populations in the fitness and health environment.

> Nutrition and Weight Management

This subject develops an understanding of the scientific aspects of nutrition. It focuses on the chemical, metabolic and nutritional concepts that will allow the personal trainer to examine the relationship between dietary intake and health and well-being. This subject will examine the latest research on all aspects of diet and nutrition to improve exercise and sporting performance and regeneration.

> Business Management

This subject introduces the student to the key business concepts that are relevant to operating a successful business.

> Professional Practice (Skills Based and workplace assessment)

Professional Practice consists of three sections:

> Professional Practice (Theory)
> Professional Practice (Case Studies)
> Professional Practice (Internship)

HOW AM I ASSESSED?

Students will complete a variety of flexible assessments both formal and informal.

For example:

> Tutorials online (a variety of tutorial assessments at student online)
> Formal (multiple choice) Exams completed at student online
> Completion of the subject Professional Practice - case studies (in the workplace)
> Completion of the subject Professional Practice  - internship (in the workplace)

WHEN CAN I GAIN EMPLOYMENT?

On completion of the all assessments students will be eligible to gain registration and insurance from Fitness Australia as a Personal Trainer and work anywhere in Australia.
