COURSE: CERTIFICATE III IN FITNESS (SRF 30206)


Fitness Instructors work in a variety of settings and are largely responsible for the implementation and supervision of members/clients exercise programs. You will conduct screenings of new members/clients and assess their fitness via a variety of methods. You will teach them correct technique in all aspects of fitness and utilise an array of exercise equipment to achieve results.


The FIA has developed the Fitness Instructor Course to promote high levels of competence in fitness industry practitioners. This course is perfect for those individuals who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in exercise program design and move into personal training. It prepares you to work in any capacity on the gymnasium floor with confidence.

You will learn to:
• Implement appropriate fitness assessments, including posture profiling
• Theoretically and practically apply various resistance, flexibility and cardiovascular programs
• Theoretically and practically design exercise programs for sedentary populations (body conditioning, functional training)

WHAT WILL YOU RECEIVE?


All students receive a comprehensive 440 page online textbook called: The Complete Guide to Fitness Instruction and associated online support materials, including access to our world class student online tools for the duration of the course (see the student online area for more information), and a Professional Development Manual.

HOW YOU CAN LEARN:


The fitness instructor course is offered as flexible delivery and can be completed as either a campus based full time or part time intensive in combination with some distance online learning or as a complete distance online learning experience with options for campus based practical workshops. All students complete a professional development manual (workplace training), as part of their course.

Campus Based (CB)
Full-time intensive
9.30 – 4pm Monday to Thursday for 2 weeks of intensive lectures and practical workshops (includes first aid) + assessments online and workplace activities. Offered 14 times per year.

Campus Based (CB)
Part time intensive
6 – 8pm Monday , Tuesday & Wednesday Night for 5 weeks of intensive lectures, plus 2 Saturdays (practical workshops 9-4pm). + assessments online and workplace activities. Offered 4 times per year. First Aid is completed as per full-time schedule.

Distance Online Learning (DoL)*
Start anytime.
Start on date of enrolment, includes all materials online, workplace activities and assessments online. Campus based weekend practical workshops also freely available. (*Does not include first aid).

HOW AM I ASSESSED?


Students will complete a variety of flexible assessments both formal and informal and various workplace activities.
For example:


• Tutorials online (a variety of tutorial assessments at student online)
• Formal (multiple choice assessment completed at student online)
• Senior first aid certificate
• Completion of a Professional Development Manual (in the workplace)

WHEN CAN I GAIN EMPLOYMENT?


On completion of all assessments students will be eligible to gain registration and insurance from Fitness Australia as a Fitness Instructor and work anywhere in Australia.
Students will also be eligible to complete the following electives, during or after their course:
